WARMI
Research center based in Cusco, Peru
WARMI is a collaborative project based in Cusco, Peru between designer Giulia Pompilj, the native Kacllaraccay Community, and the research centre Mater Iniciativa which focuses on the surrounding plant ecosystem. ‘Warmi’, which in Quecha, means women, is self managed and composed of a group of twenty local women. Seeking to preserve and experiment with traditional textile dyeing techniques, the workshop has evolved over the past two years to economically empower those involved, while shedding light on innovative applications of plant based knowledge.
This project has been realised thanks to the invaluable support and expertise of Mater Iniciativa, Anthropologist Francesco D'angelo Piaggio, Local Expert Ceferina Atau.
