Before medicine had a name, it had roots, leaves and petals.

"In a land far from everything, nature provides all that humans need. The plants hold everything you seek, and when it is not the plants, it is the minerals in the soils" - Candelario Santillano.

Deep in the Peruvian Amazon, the lush forests of Chachapoyas hold centuries of botanical wisdom, an intricate web of medicinal plants used by Indigenous healers long before modern pharmaceuticals existed. These plants are more than just remedies; they are vessels of ancestral knowledge, carrying stories of resilience, survival, and the delicate balance between humans and nature.

In a time when biodiversity is rapidly vanishing and traditional knowledge risks being forgotten, this project seeks to document, understand, and translate the healing power of these plants. Through research, fieldwork, and collaboration with local communities, I explored the properties, cultural significance, and potential applications of medicinal flora.

This project has been realised thanks to the invaluable support and expertise of GoctaLab, Candelario Santillano, and precious financial support of the Stimuleringsfonds.
